The Federation of Poles in Great Britain marked the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław tye Brave in the British Parliament.

On Thursday, 9 October 2025, a special event organised by the Federation of Poles in Great Britain was held at the Palace of Westminster – to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Poland’s first king, Bolesław the Brave.
The ceremony, which took place in the Churchill Room, gathered over 100 participants, including representatives of British public life, diplomats, members of the Polish community, social organisations, and friends of Poland in the United Kingdom.
Reflections on the significance of this anniversary — which symbolically marked Poland’s place in the Western Christendom — were shared by Alicja Donimirska, President of the Federation of Poles and Jerzy Boczkowski, Chargé d’Affaires of Poland in London.
uring the event, Joanna Kumor, Head of the International Relations Department at the Office of International Cooperation of the Institute of National Remembrance, read a letter addressed on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, and delivered by Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak from the Chancellery of the President. In the letter, the President expressed pride in the historic legacy of Poland’s first crowned ruler.
Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, also addressed the gathering in a special letter, emphasising the enduring strength of Polish-British ties and the importance of jointly preserving the memory of Polish history.
A historical lecture on the legacy of Bolesław the Brave’s coronation was delivered by Professor Arkady Rzegocki, who reminded attendees of Poland’s unique parliamentary, republican, and liberty-oriented traditions, deeply rooted in the long history of Polish statehood.
The ceremony concluded with a recital of Polish patriotic songs performed by the Mazury Dance Company's Choir – Fiołki, which gave the event a unique and symbolic atmosphere.
“This event not only commemorates a thousand years of Polish statehood but also highlights the enduring bonds between Poland and the United Kingdom, built over centuries by our compatriots,”
- Alicja Donimirska.
